Handcrafted Art Pottery
"Our Fat Lava pottery pieces are renowned for their vivid colors, ranging from fiery reds and oranges to deep blues and earthy browns. The glazes, are applied generously and often dripped or layered, creating a three-dimensional effect that resembled molten lava. This organic and sculptural quality makes each piece a unique work of art." Otto Gerharz Jnr.

The Creation of the Golden Bulls Edition
Each bull is crafted from high-quality clay, carefully glazed, and fired at precise temperatures to ensure both durability and a flawless finish. The bulls, or just their horns, are then coated with a fine gold-based glaze containing up to 25% pure gold. They undergo a second firing at 750°C to achieve a brilliant, long-lasting golden luster.
The ceramic bulls in our 5 collections are all individually handcrafted.
Blurring the boundaries between painting and ceramics
Otto Gerharz stands out in contemporary ceramics for his innovative use of glazes. His abstract ceramic plaques, created as single objects or in sets of two or three, feature fascinating colour gradients that blend seamlessly. The colour of the glazes adds visual depth to the works, creating a cohesive experience that challenges the distinction between painted art and ceramics.
Otto Keramik's abstract plaques offer the opportunity to own art that transcends conventional categories. Whether displayed individually or as part of a composition, these plaques add creativity to any space.
The uniqueness of each plaque ensures that no two are alike. The plaques can be viewed as a single work of art or displayed individually. Otto Gerharz's work demonstrates that ceramics can have the same depth and expressiveness as painted canvases. The glazes interact with the ceramic material to create unique textures and effects.
The German ceramic designer Kurt Tschöner, introduced vase forms that broke the boundaries of convention and became symbols of the 70s aesthetic. His bold, geometric shapes embodied the essence of the era. Today, Otto Gerharz Jnr. breathes new life into these iconic pieces, with his fresh, approach to glazes that resonate with contemporary audiences while preserving their historical significance.

“I value the unpredictable elements inherent in ceramics. The process involves surrendering control to the chemical reactions of glazes during kiln firing, yielding one-of-a-kind creations. This inherent uncertainty contributes a distinctive quality to my work.” Otto Gerharz Jnr.
